Governor Rick Scott Signs Silver Alert Bill

June 24, 2011 - Governor Rick Scott signed into law the Florida Silver Alert Plan, which helps protect Florida’s vulnerable senior citizens. Silver Alerts assist local law enforcement in the rescue of a missing elderly person with a cognitive impairment. (Read the Governor’s press release on www.flgov.com.)

Elder Abuse Awareness Day

Governor Rick Scott has declared June 15th, 2011 Elder Abuse Awareness Day in the State of Florida (also the World Elder Abuse Awareness day), an occasion to focus on building safer communities for Florida's over 4.45 million seniors. It is estimated that every year 2.1 million older persons in America become victims of elder abuse. The Department organizes a presentation and discussion of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation prevention. Learn more about the Elder Abuse Prevention Program.
