$1M Allocated to Establish Hurricane Michael Disaster Recovery Fund
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (10/22/18) – One of the most powerful storms to ever hit the U.S., Hurricane Michael made landfall on Northwest Florida’s Gulf Coast less than two weeks ago. To assist with the long-term recovery of the impacted areas, the CareerSource Florida Board of Directors is allocating an additional $1 million to help coordinate and continue the work of the initial state responses provided through Disaster Unemployment Assistance benefits, the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Disaster Dislocated Worker grants and services offered by other community partners.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Governor Rick Scott announced today that the Florida Housing Finance Corporation (Florida Housing) is helping families displaced by Hurricane Michael find affordable rental housing through Socialserve. Florida residents displaced by Hurricane Michael can visit the affordable rental housing locator service, www.FloridaHousingSearch.org, to find available units in Florida.

DCF Replaces Food Assistance Benefits for Customers Impacted by Hurricane Michael
TALLAHASSEE – To assist families in recovery after Hurricane Michael, current Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) households in Bay, Calhoun, Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Wakulla, and Washington counties will receive replacement benefits at a 40 percent rate by close of business Wednesday, October 17, 2018.

DCF Waives Restrictions on Using Food Assistance Benefits to Purchase Prepared Foods for Customers Impacted by Hurricane Michael
TALLAHASSEE – To assist families who evacuated or experienced storm damage related to Hurricane Michael, current Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) customers are permitted to purchase hot foods with their Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards at participating retailers through October 31.

Falls Prevention Awareness Day

September 22 is Falls Prevention Awareness Day. The annual Falls Prevention Awareness Day (FPAD) raises awareness about how to prevent falls-related injuries among older adults. National, state, and local partners collaborate to educate others about the impact of falls, share falls-prevention strategies, and advocate for the expansion of evidence-based community falls- prevention programs. Florida recognizes the importance of falls prevention in healthy living and promotes programs that help seniors to be free from falls.

It also showcases the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), which provides on-the-job skills training to individuals 55 or older with limited financial resources. Update on Emergency Generator Power Rule for Assisted Living Facilities

Rule 58A-5.036, Florida Administrative Code, has been ratified by the Florida Legislature and signed by Governor Rick Scott. Assisted Living Facilities have until June 1, 2018, to come into compliance with the requirements of the rule. For more details, click here.
